Hi there, I'm trying to plan route on the android app and then get it into my wahoo. I've downloaded the tcx file to my phone but have no idea where to find it in order to import into the wahoo elemnt app.
Can you let know the file path used on Android ?
Many thanks
Ed

Ed, the easiest way (and with more options) is to open the website (on your phone is fine) and download the route from there. I think the 'download' option in the app is mainly to allow users of the app access to their downloaded routes offline.
Depending on your settings, locate the file, tap on it and the phone should do the rest, inviting you to import it into the Wahoo app.
Actually, I've found the proper way!
Open the route in the app
Tap 'Save'
Choose 'Export to GPX'
Then (depending on your settings) the gpx should be in your Downloads folder
Thks Hobbes, I will have another go at this as it would be v useful to be able to plan a route on my phone and then use it right away on my Wahoo, without having to go via my laptop.
OK, I think I have the process working now. I think the problem before may have been with the network, perhaps I was in a railway tunnel when attempting to download.
Thank you! 👍
Ed, I rarely use the app but I use the website on my phone all the time. As someone more familiar with the website, I far prefer the interface and the options - it's worth the effort of becoming familiar with it.
A handy hint for a Wahoo user, is to store your routes on your phone (as opposed to the app). Over time the app fills us whereas you can use the folder structure in your File Manager software to store and organise your routes, then transfer them to the app as needed. Once on the phone, no internet access is required.
Thanks a lot Hobbes for your tips, much appreciated.
I tried this method and for me it did not work. Trying the "Export GPX track" from the Android app gives me a message "Your GPX is in your Downloads folder (in the Files app)" but when I look, it's not there. Nor is it anywhere to be found in the phone. I note the caveat "depending on your settings" but it's not clear whether this refers to app settings or phone settings; I can't find anything relevant in either.
What version of Android and what phone model are you using?
It's Android 10 on a Motorola.
Ah, that would tally. Before Android 11, downloads worked in a completely different way. I’ve just had a bit of a stab at working round this – I don’t have an Android 10 phone, but have managed to get it to work on the simulator – and a hopeful fix should be in the upcoming version in the next week.
Thank you. No big plans for the next three weeks or so, so hopefully should be good by then.
And a general thank you for your responsiveness and accessibility. I don't think you get this with Garmin!
A bit of a neophyte question here; one has a phone, the phone contains the GPX file but how on earth does that get into the Wahoo? I've had a good talking to to my Element but it is dumb on the question and refuses to have anything to do with it. I just thjnk the Element is old school!!
Ken, Google is your friend:
You can upload a GPX file to your Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM using one of two primary methods: through the Wahoo ELEMNT Companion App on your smartphone (the recommended way) or by direct USB transfer from a computer.
Method 1: Using the Wahoo ELEMNT Companion App (Recommended)
This is the most common and straightforward way, as it uses your phone to manage the file transfer via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
Steps via Smartphone:
Download the GPX File: Save the .gpx file onto your smartphone (e.g., from an email, a website, or a cloud storage app).
Open the File: Locate the downloaded .gpx file on your phone and tap on it.
Import to Wahoo App: Your phone should prompt you to choose an app to open the file. Select the Wahoo ELEMNT app from the list.
If the app doesn't show up, you may need to select "Share" or "Send to" first to find the Wahoo ELEMNT app.
Confirm Import: The Wahoo app will open and likely ask you to confirm the import and/or allow you to name the route.
Sync to ROAM:
Ensure your Wahoo ROAM is turned on and paired to your smartphone via Bluetooth.
In the Wahoo ELEMNT app, go to the Plan tab, then My Routes.
Find the newly imported route.
Select the route, and then tap the "Select Route" or "Send to ELEMNT" button. The route will then sync from your phone to your ROAM device.
Once synced, the route will appear in the Routes list on your Wahoo ROAM, ready for navigation.
Method 2: Direct USB Transfer (Via Computer)
You can connect your ROAM directly to a computer and manually copy the file.
Steps via Computer:
Connect Device: Connect your Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM to your computer using a USB data cable (ensure it's not just a charging cable).
Access Storage: The ROAM should appear as an external storage device (like a USB drive) on your computer.
Locate 'Routes' Folder: Open the storage device and find the folder named "routes".
Transfer File: Drag and drop the .gpx file into the "routes" folder.
Eject and Reboot: Safely eject the Wahoo ROAM from your computer, then disconnect the cable. You may need to restart the ROAM for the new route to appear.
The route should now be available in the Routes list on your Wahoo ROAM.
Ta, will work on that. First have to clean out the cave of the animal skins from last night's feast.
