Hi, I am relatively new to cycle.travel, but find it very useful and interesting. Could you clarify if there is a limit to the number of viapoints which can be included in a route? I've clicked the box to add them, but it seems to stop after the 20th viapoint. This has been using the web site in both Google Chrome and Edge.

Eg I wanted to plot my return to Stanley mill
Many thanks

Hi Colin,
I believe that there is a limit, but I think it's in the hundreds. I have just added some via points to your route and have gone up to 25 without a problem. https://cycle.travel/map/journey/658250
This is using the Samsung Web browser. I suggest you go to the one I have altered and see if you can add via points to it. You'll also need to delete the ones I added as they were fairly random.
Coin, like Martin suggests, while there is a limit it's pretty high. It's not something I have encountered before.
I tested your route and was able to add viapoints on the website. Out of curiosity, I also tried the app and could add more viapoints there too.
Could you explain how you are adding viapoints? For example, I just click on the map whereas there is an option to add them via a 'box'.
In any case, I notice that a lot of your route is following the Mercian Way. In such a scenario, it might be easier to use the 'Routes' option. This means that CT will favour 'official' bike routes without the need for so many viapoints. (We can use viapoints to take us off the official route if we like. )
Using 'Routes' there is no real need for a viapoint until Minchinhampton.

Alternatively, consider the 'Round Trip' option. Put in your start point, your furthest point and click 'Round Trip'.
You can then add (and drag) viapoints to adjust it your own taste.
To get to the root of your problem. I'd suggest testing a straight 'dummy' route adding viapoints to see if the same thing happens. Your current route has the destination on the same road as your way out. This might be causing some confusion.
I just checked. One of my routes is 2069 kilometers. It has 338 viapoints.
So there shouldn't be a problem.
Yes, there is a limit on viapoints (must be - nothing is endless or unlimited 😉). I hit the limit last year, when reaching 500 viapoints after approx. 1.500km tracklength. It's not clear, what this number of viapoints depends on - resources on my system or on the server. Anyway, this was the number of viapoints when I couldn't do anything anymore to the track. After deleting the last added 5 viapoints, I could continue. Adding more track and new points and reaching again the 500 number of points caused the system to fail repeatedly. It's not the length of track but obviously the number of added viapoints. This behaviour was independent from the browser I used.
