I'm able to download offline maps in the android app okay, but how can I be sure that they are updated with something like the latest openstreetmap data? I don't see anyway to force that to happen.

Related question: how to I remove maps I don't need anymore? (obviously this would be a way to force a map update, by removing maps and then re-installing them).

I did search the app help, the FAQ and the forum but did not find an answer to these questions :~)

Ted, as far as I'm aware to remove a downloaded map simply open the 'Offline map' screen in your app, tap on the areas you no longer need and they are deleted automatically.

Similarly, as you've suggested above to ensure the latest update simply delete the relevant area then download it again. Just don't forget to hit the 'download' button/link! :-)

When I tap on the areas no longer needed it does not appear that they are actually deleted, in fact when I come back to on-line maps again then they are marked as downloaded again.

Anyway, there "should" be a way to update without removing anything first!

That method works on iPhone, for what it’s worth. I had assumed that they’d update periodically but never thought to check.

Ted, I just had a look and my android doesn't work in the same way as yours. When I select a map to delete - it stays deleted (according to the display).

As for what the app 'should' do, I'd like to remind you that the website and both apps are being developed by a single person. As a subscriber you get the regular updates and are aware of the development that is in progress and on these fora you can see the requests made and issues presented. In all honesty, the three taps and few seconds required to give the peace of mind of an up-to-date map hardly seems like a significant chore.

Personally, I fail to see the vital importance of such an up-to-date map. CT updates approximately once a month, the data updated depends on volunteers to update it accurately. Far better, to my way of thinking, to adopt a flexible mindset since even the most recent map may be superseded and anyone who depends 100% on a digital map (or any map) is going to be disappointed eventually.

So true, Hobbes. I find it quite surprising that these days people expect much more than is reasonable. It's the modern age of entitlement, I suppose. For my money, this site is remarkable.
