Njigsaw, I had a play with some of my own routes in the Android app and I think the nature of your problem is that after deleting a route the name stays in the list of routes after being deleted (although cannot be opened) until we exit the folder and then reopen it? 

It's not directly affecting your query, but an alternative is to use the website. This allows us to delete multiple routes at the same time (amongst other actions - add to folder, make private/public).

On a computer it's straightforward - check the boxes of the desired routes and choose the required option from the drop-down list. On the phone, it requires holding the phone in landscape mode to see the check boxes. For large scale tidying I find it more straightforward. 

The display of undeleted routes is updated automatically.
