I’m loving the app and the route planning functions. I have a number of private journeys saved. However on some routes I have missed turns as the app hasn’t announced them. I only find out when the app sounds the alert to say I’m going the wrong way. I then check my route and find I should have taken a turn. This isn’t to do with lag in terms of location which on occasion I’ve also had experience of. In one instance that could have caused a serious accident for me as I had to make a sudden turn on a busy road.

Could you give an example or two of where this happens?
Jon, I've pondered a few days before posting this but in response to
If you had made a sudden turn on a busy road the responsibility would have been yours. Nobody else's.
As good as CT is, it is not infallible and depends on information that can be superceded live.
In relation to your problem, a part of it may be familiarity with the app. Car stanavs tend to be clearer, probably because their roads are clearer and more consistently mapped. For us on foot or bike, often with more options of varying quality, the instructions can be less clear. A 'keep left' can actually mean taking a right turn or vice versa. The more you look at the display and link what you're seeing to the verbal/visual instruction the clearer and more consistent it will become. That can take time.
Exactly. I had someone in a truck in front of me slam on his brakes on a moderately busy road and start backing right towards me because he missed his turn.
Your first priority is to ride/drive safe. If you miss a turn, figure out how to fix it safely. Don’t blame technology for you doing unsafe things.
The comment about missing a turn was a poor example of where this has happened. As a driver and cyclist I'm all too aware of the responsibility of cyclists to be safe.
I will look through my route from last week and provide a screenshot.
The following are screenshots of part of a 48 mile route. I set the app to dim my screen in order to preserve battery life so it easy to miss these turns as I said in my original post.
In this example I’m heading south down Low Tharston and the app I feel should say to turn or bear right on to Parkes Lane. The road here switches from Low Tharston to Bungay Road.
That's really useful - thank you. I think I can see why that is happening in that particular instance but I’ll take a closer look.
In case it is helpful I discovered another example this weekend on a ride from Norwich to Sheringham as shown on the maps. The close up shows how the road naturally flows (arrow with a cross thru it) and the left turn not announced. The app subsequently didn’t announce the next left turn also shown further down the road. I’ve provided a zoomed out view of the map.
