Hi all.

I am thinking of doing the Lon_Las_Cymru route next year. Probably around the end of June. Looking to do it over three days. I know it's going to be a bit of a challenge.

Just wondering if anyone has do this route over three days and if so how was it.

Regards

Gary.

I'm doing it in a few weeks, but over about 5 days because I have the time.

It may be interesting to read comments from others who have done it in your proposed 3 days, however to be meaningful, factors such as relative fitness, bike, load etc would need to be taken in to account. If I were you, I'd try to find rides local to you that represent the days on LLC in terms of distance, elevation and length of climbs and include them in your preparation, even if it means repetitions of local hills. Attached file from a local ride in South Derbyshire shows what I mean. This was done as part of prep for a trip to the Alps - and it helped both with fitness and confidence.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your preparation.

I did a part of that last year as part of a longer tour. I was travelling fully loaded (as I tend to do) and the hills of Wales were nearly the death of me! I've done the Alps, the Pyrenees and the Picos in Northern Spain, but Wales nearly broke my heart! Short, steep and narrow are my recollections. But I loved it!

I don't mean to put you off. As Graham says prepare!

Thanks Graham.

I would say my fitness level is ok, but as you say I would need to step it up if I was to complete it in three days. I would not be doing it on my own though. Hopefully there will be three or four more riders to join me when time comes.

Looks like hard work that graph but as you say it all helps.

Good luck on the ride Graham hope it all goes well for you.

Don't worry Hobbes on Tour it will not put me off. I have done a few rides around north Wales and they have been brutal to say the least.

I was just putting an interest out the to see how they got on.

Four days seems to be the popular choice but I was fancy doing it over three days.

I think it depends how faithful you are to the official route. I did it in four days and loved it. It’d be doable in three days (I’m not especially fit!) but you’d probably want to shortcircuit a few of the slower off-road sections. You might stick to the road around Pontsticill reservoir in the Beacons, for example, and maybe use the A470 (yuk) instead of the Old Coach Road north of Newbridge.

Would like to stick with the official route Richard that is the plan anyway. Just out of interest Richard how difficult are those sections and would they save me a lot of time.

My plan is to stay over in Cardiff the night before and get a very early start the next morning.

So day one would be Cardiff to Builth Wells and stay over night.

Day two would be Builth Wells to Harlech probably around 100 miles.

Day three Harlech to Holyhead which around 65 miles to the finish. Well that is the plan.

Places to stay would probably be Youth Hostel or B&B if possible.

Just any info on any of the climbs and track and that would be time consuming but the weather could play a big part in my progress but that I can not plan for..
