[suggestion] Import waypoints to build route

Hello,

When preparing a trip, I start by building a new map of things to see in Google My Maps (because its search engine is much better than OSM):

But since GMM's router is pathetic, I have to open a second tab where I'll use Cycle.travel to build routes to reach all those waypoints, switching back and forth with (SHIFT+)CTRL+TAB. It does the job, but is a bit cumbersome.

My suggestion: Make it possible to upload a file (GPX or KML: GMM only exports as KML) as an alternative to an empty map to get started.

Cheers,

I second this suggestion.  I just discovered cycle.travel and I have a whole bunch of waypoints and tracks on other online mapping/routing sites.  I would like to pull over some, if not all, of this planning efforts to cycle.travel for ongoing route planning.  Importing a GPX or other file format would be wonderful.

Thanks -

Tom, if you're not aware, the possibility to import gpx files into CT already exists. Depending on what version you are using, go to the "My Journeys" page and look for the "Upload" option.

Be warned, though, there is a limit on how long the route is to be imported and CT can adjust the route on importation based, I believe, on the CT algorithim.

The alternative is to import the gpx file as a "Trace". On the map page look for the "hamburger" menu, top right, that we can use to select different map styles. On the bottom are two orange buttons, one of which is Trace GPX. This will overlay the (accurate) gpx on the map, allowing us to recreate the route.

As regards waypoints there is a discussion here.
