I just noticed on the map menu "Markers"& "Tiles". What are these? I recall seeing those before.

Yes OSM German is a (subtly) different map, based on the same Open Street Map data but with a different design. It does show remarkably small detail where you can zoom down to individual buildings if you are planning to visit something, such as La Maison de Monsieur Sax in Dinant (Belgium), as described in one of my travelogues.
On the cycle.travel web page you access OSM German from the icon that looks like three stacked squares/diamonds at the top right of the map page.
On the cycle.travel app it is the wavy icon at the top right of the map.
I am a supporter, so I get access to UK Ordnance Survey and French IGN maps, which are occasionally useful. These are available to coffee-level supporters at £2 per month, which is only fair as cycle.travel must pay for the licences.
