Apologies if incorrect terminology used.
When using latest Android version, if one navigates away from the map to an alternative app page eg,offline maps download or settings even if pressing the back arrow on the secondary page it will return to the main map page but NOT close out the secondary page. One has to sesperately reveal the secondary page and manually close it leaving only 
map page open

njigsaw, you may want to add what phone (or is it a tablet?) you're using.
I just checked my Android app and can't replicate your issue. (It took me a while to find the 'green' CT, though :-)
Not being terribly technically minded, I can't help but wonder if the 'Multi Window Switch' visible in your screenshot is playing a part?
Its a Sony Xperia 5iv.
Other apps that have a similar navigation away from and back to a map page (or other home pages) do not repeat this characteristic.
The multi window function demonstrated/ screen grabbed is not enabled at that point, its an option to select and use if required, so I dont think this is a cause.
Out of interest, do you know when you last updated the app (i.e. before this latest update)?
The only thing I can think of that might affect this was changed much earlier this year, springtime or so. Like Hobbes, it doesn’t behave like this on either of my Android phones so it’s a bit of a case of finding the way in the dark.
Hi Richard, prior to the new green logo update it was doing the same thing.
I tend to regularly update apps (as they appear in play store so 1nce/week) so not sure when last update release was.
