Become a supporter

Hey,

https://cycle.travel/map/journey/847174

For this particular journey, the elevation profile is not working. I'm wondering if it's caused by some bogus data in OSM? It's working on my other journeys it seems. Would it possible to add the climbing and descent value in the "Route summary"? It would make it easier to have all the data without clicking a button and having the details taking quite some screen estate.

Since I already created a post, I thought I would mention it: would it possible to remove on https://cycle.travel/map and on https://cycle.travel/by/{name} the "Become a supporter" banner when the account is known to be a supporter?

BTW, I found the url https://cycle.travel/user/profile in a post in this forum. But I can't find anywhere a link to it, whether on the default page, or map, or by/{url}. Am I missing it?

Thanks!

Danj, when I see that elevation is not looking as it should I look for things like bridges, tunnels and ferry crossings.

It looks like there may be an issue with crossing water on your route. I've added viapoints and used the 'direct to' feature to 'bypass' this and now the elevation works. https://cycle.travel/map/journey/847259

Interestingly, I cannot add viapoints or edit your original route in any way on the website on my phone - only on my Chromebook on Chrome.

In relation to the banner it would be helpful to say which browser you're using or try another one. You may also want to check any settings or preferences in relation to display/size/scale on your browser. Recently, there was an issue with CT logging users out - that may be relevant - but it seems to have been solved now.

now the elevation works

Well, it works yes, for 35/40km on a journey of 96.1km so that's not perfect haha. But thanks for checking, I appreciate :)

Ah yes. I see that now.

To make the situation better, simply split the route into 2 sections. You can use the option of 'delete after' VP1 and 'delete before' VP2. That will give you the elevation for each section.

Mind you, in these parts we'll climb in a couple of km what you'll climb over 45 km :-)

Seriously, though, there seems to be something strange going on. The elevation won't show using the website on my phone.

I asked a friend who contributes from time to time to OSM. There was an error in the OSM editor so he added a culvert and a bridge

Hopefully that will fix the issue here. I wonder how frequently cycle.travel fetches new data?

It fetches it roughly once a month. But there’s definitely an issue here – thank you for flagging it up and I’ll try and work out what’s going on. For what it’s worth, you can work around it for now by clicking ‘Show turn-by-turn directions’ on the left and then loading elevation.

Oh, the "Show turn-by-turn directions" is a good work-around, thanks!

That’s fixed now and it should be showing the elevation as you’d expect. (For info, it was a problem that showed up when the entire route was on the same road/path for its entire length!)

Thanks a lot Richard!
