A mishandled dog leg junction

I reported one dog leg junction turn by turn navigation problem in Devon a while back and that got fixed.

I just discovered another interesting one in the backstreets of Todmorden!

This route snippet goes along Stansfield ROAD, turns left down Wellington Road, then immediately right along Stansfield STREET. Cycle.travel is treating it as one road, apparently missing the junction altogether.

No cues are generated for the 2 turns.

Perhaps missed because the turns are so close together AND the first and last road names both begin with 'Stansfield'?

Ah - forget the Stansfields! I just had a look at other dog leg junctions nearby. The ones above some threshold are handled correctly. Ones that are too close to being straight on have the same problem.

I suppose that is a similar issue to the unrecognised Devon crossroads that I have been discussing in another post?

Small doglegs are indeed intentionally collapsed into straight-ons, because there are thousands of junctions in OSM which are mapped like this but when you’re actually on the bike it’s obvious where you go.

I think the issue here is that Stansfield Street and Railway Street are so close together it’s not obvious which is straight on, but unfortunately there’s no way for c.t’s routing engine to take that into account.

Fair enough. Thanks for replying.

I will double check future routes now just to make sure that I am happy and add vias with notes where I need them.
