Hi Richard,

first of all thanks for the great app and all the work which went into it! With Komoot being sold off, I (and assume other people as well) have started looking for alternatives and came across cycle.travel and decided to give it a try. I've never been a huge fan of Komoot (don't like the map style, being forced to upload my tours etc.), however the feature of the community uploaded pictures and showing them as POIs on the map just makes tour planning so much easier. Are there any plans of integrating something like that? I can't really offer much to donate as I just quit my job but could help with development/testing (I'm a software developer).

Cheers,

Julian

Julian, if you're unaware there are two useful features on the CT website (also available on the phone).

One is Google Streetview, the other is 'Find Photos', both of which depend on where you are in the world.. Simply click on any point in a route, 'right click' and make your choice.

Hi HobbesOnTour,

Thanks, I've seen the Find Photos Feature, however from what I understand that only works if you planned the route already and only on the segments of that route. The feature I came to appreciate on Komoot for example is seeing interesting bits on the map which other users uploaded and then planning the route along there (e.g. a nice swim spot at a lake, or a picnic spot, a picture of a nice forest path, etc.). Without that you have to do a lot of research yourself, which of course can also be fun and makes you discover new things, but also can sometimes be tedious on a long tour

Cheers,

Julian

I’d very much like to do something like this. The challenge (apart from hours in the day, as ever) is that Komoot has 45 million users and cycle.travel has… a few less. Getting a critical mass of user-generated contributions is easier when you have 45 million users!

In the iPhone app and on the website you can now add markers; those markers can include photos; and you can set them to be public. That’s the very first step towards something along these lines. I might also be able to do something anonymised with these markers – if 20 people have separately marked a particular café as a marker, chances are that it’s a good one.

Hi Richard,

That's sounds promising, thanks. I'll give it a try on the web and also wait for the feature to land on the android version. And yeah, Komoot of course has more users and paid content creators but I feel cycle.travel users are also quite dedicated cyclists, so my hopes are high that we can create some content :)

I just tested adding a marker, however I can't attach/upload an image (yet), is that correct or am I doing it wrong ?

Cheers,

Julian
