Thanks for making such an awesome app! I compiled a list of stuff that would be nice to have/a few bugs instead of making a million posts.
Elevation profile on desktop
- show day markers. It currently shows the days, but it’s either in the middle. You can’t tell where the start/end points are
- The box showing the altitude is weird. It shows the altitude at the mouse cursor, not at that point on the route
Mobile/General
- Add ability to add multiple specific places. You can search for “123 main st” and get directions to there, but you can’t search for an address for day 2 or 3 or 4 and make a long route like you can on desktop.
- Move the elevation profile off to the side in landscape mode
- There seems to be a positioning bug on iOS with the distance, to go, etc. info. The last two sometimes disappear, with “to go” being where ETA normally is
- Option to zoom in on elevation profile
- It would be nice to see how many km are remaining for the day. I know you can split routes into multiple days, but then I have 100 routes. I’d rather have “Berlin-Paris” or whatever.
- Option to navigate via the shortest/quickest path. Because sometimes you’re just tired. Or it’s about to rain.
- Option to highlight/exclude ferry crossings. Twice in Poland I had to make long detours because the ferry didn’t actually exist (not CT’s fault), and it’d be nice to be able to see those without having to zoom into every river and try to figure out if it’s a ferry crossing
- Being able to navigate via, or see, bike paths would be really nice. I don’t mean routes like EV, but actual paths.
- One random map tile occasionally flickers to black and back really fast
Comments
Thank you! Lots of really helpful feedback there and I’m glad it proved useful for you. I’ve added a handful of these to the to-do list (zoomable elevation was already on the list 😃).
On some of the specific points:
Thanks! The elevation profile looks better and more obvious, thanks. I never even noticed that the grey backgrounds were the day markers, I just thought it was striped!
> All things being equal c.t does generally prefer bike paths to roads, though surface, climb and so on can affect this.
Yeah, my point about this though, and perhaps you can think of a better solution, is that many sections of the EV routes aren't worth diverting for, but others are.
If an EV route isn't actually a bike path, but just another road, then whatever I'd rather just follow the most direct route. But if it's an actual bike route, it might be worth diverting for.
Seeing bike paths on the map, instead of just routes, would be very very helpful IMO. I feel like this could be accomplished by shading the dots differently.
Bike paths are the red-edged ones – like here for example. (It’s broadly the same on the app, although they’re green rather than red if you use the Wayfarer style.)
I am idly thinking, though not much more than that as yet, of adding a really simple map style for the app – something with big strident colours for easy visibility on the road. But to be fair I do have quite a lot of things on the “idly thinking” list!
Ahh, gotcha. I never zoom in that far when planning!
Oh, one more minor bug -- iOS always shows miles as a scale, even though the app is set to metric
One more -- Pins/Google Maps pins integration. I'm constantly going back and forth between CT and Google Maps trying to figure out what sights are near the route. It'd be awesome to just see them on CT.
And gradient % on the elevation profile!
And a screen lock on the topo map.
It was raining today and my map kept jumping to random places when rain drops hit the topo, lol
