Using map markers in route planning

Hi - I created a couple of map markers for my favourite starting points. I tried to use these to begin planning a route but I just get a popup box about the marker! How can I get C.T to use the location of the marker as a start / way point / end?

Thanks

If I want to navigate to a marker I just zoom in and put the viapoint as close to the marker as I can.

To add to what I wrote above, in the app the approach is different. I can select a marker, long press and choose from Navigate to here' or 'Start here'.

At the moment it’s as Hobbes describes – you’ll need to zoom in and choose somewhere nearby – but would you find it useful if I were to add options like “Navigate to here?” on the site?

Yes please!

I think so, too. Useful in its own right but also consistent with the app.

Ah. I just entered a similar request.

My comments: The "zoom in" approach might work adequately for some of my use cases (at home on my PC) but not too well when I'm on the phone's browser, where pinch-zooming is quite hit-and-miss. To be able to type the name of a marker has my vote, for sure.

I’ve just added an extra link to the map marker popup, which reads “Start here”, “Go to here”, or “Go via here” (depending how many points you’ve set already). It should be fairly straightforward – let me know how you get on with it.

That is Fan-dabby-dooby!! Thank you Richard!!

It's a wonderful experience watching these little improvements develop into very useful features! Kudos to you.

OK, this is quite neat and kudos to Richard for implementing it so quickly. But...

In a sense it's the opposite of what I was hoping for. I guess I'm hopelessly old-school, but I was hoping for a text-based search to grab a marker by its name and make the route go there.

But here's a (possible) compromise. If it were possible in the c.t. web to move the map's "focus" to a marker by typing its name in a search field, then I'd be able to click on it and add it to my route. Everybody happy!

Everyone’s happy apart from the poor beleaguered programmer who has to write a new interface to the placename search 😉

Actually, not too hard after all. I’ve added that. Note that it’ll only work from the map page, not the site homepage (or the app yet).

Richard, continuing the theme of Marker integration ..... :-)

If it's not too much hassle I could see an advantage in being able to use the usual search facility to find, for example, a campground and then having the choice to convert this to a marker. It's possible now just manually adding the marker. Yes, I'm getting very lazy in my old age :-)

Thanking you.
