Brad, I can't help with your issue except to make the suggestion to split the route into 2 separate ones by making a couple of copies, deleting 'before' VP 3 (one one copy) and 'after' (on the other). That's only useful if you're in a hurry.

However, you should consider that the last 2 winters have been very wet in those parts and gravel routes may be more challenging than expected. Certainly many country roads that were challenging but passable last year are not all all appropriate except for the really adventurous! To give you an idea of the strength of floods this past winter....
