Why are some place names now in green? They seem to be nice villages at first glance, but not special compared to some that don't have  green names.

They are indeed scenic places.

In France, Italy and a few other places, they’re from the official scenic designation list (Les plus beaux villages de France, etc.). In the UK there’s no such list, so it’s a list of well-known scenic villages in true Michelin style.

Where are you getting the UK ones from? There are some rather strange picks, such as Burnham Overy instead of Burnham Thorpe or Burnham Market, and it's surprising Cheddar isn't one, nor any of the places near the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
