I'm a big fan of the circular route planning function, but on occasion would like to generate a route with more than just total distance as the user selected variable. For example, rather than repeating multiples of a 20km loop (dull!) it would be great to select for total distance and, say, max distance from an origin point? I would find this particularly helpful when exploring a new area (often with a train station as an origin point).
To an extent the route planner already does this, but just doesn't currently join the routes together.

Mark, perhaps I'm getting the wrong end of the stick, but I presume you're talking about the 'suggest a ride' feature?
In that case we can choose any point, anywhere, choose 'suggest a ride', set the distance and generate numerous options all starting and ending at our selected point. Refresh for more options.
Here's one option
And another, longer one from the same point.
Save them all in one folder and you can see them displayed on a map, choosing whatever one you want.
If you wanted to merge some (as opposed to adjusting the distance) you could download the routes, open the 'base' route on the map and display the 'extended' route as a trace. Then it's relatively straightforward to adjust the base route to match the extended one using viapoints.
If you're talking about 'filling in' all the space around a particular place and you use the app, you could use the travel tiles to see a visual representation of the areas covered and therefore the areas to cover.
Just to add, I found the suggest a ride feature offered up more variations with judicious selection of the startpoint.
