We are planning to cycle the Way of the Roses this Sept. We would need to take the Northern line back to London. But you can't reserve for bikes. How accessible are the first come first serve places on the train? I'm starting to think we will be on the train platform in Bridlington all day waiting for a train with room for our bikes....

Mairead, since this is a forum focused on CycleTravel, you may find a wider audience on the 2 main UK fora: CycleChat and Cyclink UK. In fact, the Cycling Uk forum has a dedicated thread for all things UK train travel with bikes.
Mairead. I used to live in the East Riding. The trains south from Brid go to Hull. You could then try the magnificent Hull trains service to London - if only to hear their call for breakfast. (‘Oo’s for a butty!?). Seriously, I always found the staff very helpful.
The other thing I should have said is that I never had any problem with putting a bike on the Bridlington train. No one ever seemed to be counting.
