Is “dim between turns” broken?

I only use “dim between turns” for very long trips, so I can’t say when this started, but for the last couple of days on tour it hasn’t dimmed at any point.

I updated the app (1.7) recently. I’m on a iPhone 15 Pro, and the phone was mostly connected to a dynamo charger. It used to work with this setup.

Is there any other information that might help?

Hmm. Nothing’s changed in the app that should affect this (famous last words…) – I used it for a ride the other day and it was working fine.

Might be worth force-quitting the app and reloading it – swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle to open the App Switcher, then find cycle.travel and clear it by swiping it upwards. iOS does sometimes arbitrarily decide it isn’t going to accept any more brightness changes!

I’d tried that, sadly, and also rebooted the whole phone. I stayed in one place for a few days so didn’t try again until today, but no luck.

I’ll try reinstalling the app, but I’ll do it when I’m home, since I seem to be getting by this way regardless.

Thanks!

Oh, I’ve noticed that it does bump up the brightness if I open it whilst the screen is dim (e.g. at night with auto brightness). Presumably some brightness control is working, so probably not a permissions issue, but I can’t find any related controls.

Ah, I’ve got it: with announcements set to “None”, the screen doesn’t dim. With any other setting (on-screen or voice) it works fine.

Ah yes, that makes sense. The logic is that it toggles the brightness when the announcement appears/disappears, so if the announcement never appears then the toggle will never happen. I’ll look into whether I could add a special case for this combination.
