Hairy verses safer?

Just a comment comparing different routes from different folks:

I have a route I am planning to ride next May going from Street in Somerset to Bewdley near Bridgenorth;

This route is provided by my good friends at Peak Tours (I'm not riding with them - this time) of 111 miles. It is extremely hairy in places particularly going over the west side of Bristol up to the Severn Bridge. Checking a route with Cycle.Travel for the same beginning and end points yields 139 miles.

One choice maybe much safer, but comes at the expense of an additional 1-1/2 hours riding - for me - on an already long day's cycling. The other choice is shorter but some of the route is downright scary and I'd be well advised to have local taxi numbers available to hop over some of these death traps.

Just a for instance comment. :-)

Ken,

Can I express my admiration for the distances that you (and other Audaxers) cycle. Perhaps I could suggest that you take a look at a YouTube video in which the founder of cycle.travel, Richard Fairhurst, explains the purpose of the system? This is from the online Cycle Touring Festival in 2022. Hopefully you can click on this link:

Otherwise search for "Richard Fairhurst Cycle Touring".

Thank you Christopher, I will view the video. I am a much admirer of anyone who takes the time and devotes their talent to making cycling - and other endeavours - safe for those whose desire draws them into perilous territory.
