Hello
I just gave Cycle.travel a try after it was mentioned elsewhere.
At this point, it's the best alternative I found to replace Google Maps Classic, which no longer lets users export routes as KML files.
Here are some suggestions to improve Cycle.travel (for use as an urban cyclist):
- The site is currently UK-centric; Make it world-, or at least, Europe-flavored (eg. "Postcode" -> Country + postcode)
- To fill "From" field, either find or remember current location, to avoid filling it manually every time
- Remember past searches, so the user can simply select them in a drop-box list
- Provide URL to routes for easy sharing
- Add export to KML: Some apps (like Maps.me or Google Maps) only understand KML
- Make it an option to *not* display turn by turn instructions: I never use this and it takes too much screen real estate
- Include elevation in route by coloring it (eg. green, blue, red). To my knowledge, no site does this, although it's a very useful information for cyclists when planning a route
Cheers,
