This year, a different direction. Go East, to the borders of Germany.
Again, we wanted to go about 60 km per day and stay at campgrounds where possible (or when possible, beacuse the weather promised to be a bit unstable).
Spoiler alert: It all turned out better than expected.
First, by train to Stralsund
and then a nice stroll around the old town
to the port.
The last leg of our journey featured two crossings by ferry.
until we finally reached Venlo from where we took the train home.
Liege really has an industrial past and present. The first 10 kilometers or so pass through the port.
The Meuse has become a real river now.
And we hit the 1000 km mark.
Passing through slightly crowded Maastricht.
Navigating the canals can be disorienting.
Another biker friendly campground.
*We decided against cycling along this part of the Meuse because it seemed too industrial on the map. We might have been wrong. It looked not too bad from the train.
Anyway, Liege is worth a visit.
And it has a nice youth hostel.
