Looking at the 6 castles route, I zoomed in to look at the climb you mention at Churchstoke. When I click to add the elevation profile to the screen, it recalculates the route - away from Churchstoke. I guess the original route is missing a 'via' to force it the right way but why does select elevation profile trigger a recalculation?

Basically because the elevation system is part of the route-planner – to get the elevation, the browser sends a request to the route-planner server saying “give me the route for these via points again, just with elevation this time”.
I’ve added a few more via points to the Six Castles route so this one stays where it should!
