Created to explore the handling of fords and associated footbridges, as per Feedback forum May 2026.
The default route seems to ride through the ford, ignoring the adjacent footbridges. The latter would seem the wiser choice except for brave/ mountain bike riders.

(This was meant to be in the "Route through a deep ford" thread; see more there.)
There’s no depth marked in OSM on either of those, so cycle.travel doesn’t know whether they’re fords to be avoided or just a little skittish bit of water over the carriageway. I suspect the actual road surface (which looks a bit rough from Street View) could be better mapped in OSM too.
By and large though I’m not too worried about this – most cyclists will see the adjacent bridge and make their own judgement which to use. I think the most important case is making sure c.t makes the right decision where there’s no alternative bridge, and that probably relies on the depth and surface being tagged correctly in OSM.
