I've used the iPhone app twice now. One circular route, once on the default direction, then once with it reversed. Both times I had the screen off and navigated with the voice instructions alone. First time it worked brilliantly. Second time the voice instructions stopped half way, after taking a short break (a couple of minutes), at the destination the loop was built around, and didn't resume for the rest of the ride.
Opening the app showed the route still displayed, and my position tracking along it. I tried playing audio from a different app; that worked (suggesting it wasn't an issue with bluetooth / headphones).

Could you link to the route where this is happening (and make sure it’s not private)?
It is worth asking if you used you phone for any other activity (call, text, WhatsApp, etc) during your short break.
I know that people who use Strava to record rides, sometimes find that taking a photo causes that app to stop running. Smartphones have so many processes running in foreground and background, that sometimes these conflict.
I wonder if it is relevant how the circular route was created? eg using the website Round trip function: initially set up an outward leg A(B)C, then using the "Round trip" button, extend the route back to A - usually the suggested route is via a different route C(D)A. Then saving and reopening to make a reversed version, using the relevant button. On your second ride, doing the reversed direction, I understand you found the audible instructions ceased at C?
At a loose end this PM, so created a test circular on the recipe above, and have just ridden it using the Android app, replicating your dwell at "C"; it worked perfectly.

I possibly looked at my emails or something during the stop. cycle.travel was certainly still running though, I checked that when I realised i was no longer getting audio from it.
