Hi everyone, just started using cycle.travel and I’m blown away, as a web developer nerd myself it’s amazing what you have built.

I’m also an avid gravel biker / tourer and I enjoy routes with a bit of everything apart from busy roads! What’s everyone’s approach to mixing standard and gravel routes to make a hybrid route? I enjoy a nice 50 / 50 road / gravel with maybe a slither of single track.

Really glad you like it!

If you plan a route in gravel mode, you can actually tell c.t to plan individual sections using the standard routing. Put a via point at the start and end of the section, then click the first of them, and in the popup, change ‘gravel’ to ‘any way’.

(Making it possible to mix and match any route type for individual sections is on the todo list!)

Amazing thanks Richard can’t wait, I’d imagine it’s a challenging but fun feature to try and implement / tackle, looking forward to seeing how you approach it. I had a few ideas but not sure how feasible they are as I’m not close to the technical details, in my head you are doing a lot of calculations based on all sorts of data such as surface, traffic etc, not sure if you could also extend the calculations to include target gravel to road ratios? Just a thought

Unfortunately the way the routing engine works doesn’t lend itself to that sort of on-the-fly adjustment, only to predefined weightings. (The upside is that’s why it’s fast!)
