Hello,
I’ve recently been using the iPhone app for voice navigation while cycling. Unfortunately this only seems to work with the screen unlocked and the app open, which drains the phone battery.
Is there a way to continue receiving these voice directions with the phone locked?

Not as yet though it’s on the radar! For now you can choose ‘Dim between turns’ in the app settings – this will effectively shut the screen off between directions.
You can do some things to save battery power:
1. Download maps offline
1a. (Download any music playlists you like to listen to)
2. Turn your phone onto airplane mode.
2a. (Check your apps to see what is using your location when not active)
2b. (Check your apps to see what is using bluetooth)
The biggest users of battery is connecting to mobile/cell towers, followed by location services in other apps, and bluetooth in other apps (eg I have a post office app that is supposed to use bluetooth to access a locker but it keeps bluetooth on afterwards). It requires a bit of app-hygiene to keep on top of, but can be managed by checking your settings.
The difference then between c.t. dimmed and phone locked is minimal.
