Is it possible to split an existing route into parts?
For example, the C2C is already an entire route (https://cycle.travel/map/journey/75), and I can save it to my routes and then drag points around to take in my planned stops / detours. But it would be handy if I could break it up into days (so my GPS unit tells me how far I have to go that day, rather than taunting me with the distance to Sunderland on the first morning...); is this straightforwardly possible?

Sorry to answer my own post, but the answer is yes! I found the recent news post ( https://cycle.travel/news/plan_multi_day_adventures_easily ) and I can indeed add overnight stops and then save each day as a separate route.
I look forward to trying this out, thank you!
Yes – that will do it!
The other way you can do it is by clicking on a via point; clicking the little ‘…’ button for extra features in the bottom right of the bubble; and clicking ‘Delete before’ or ‘Delete after’. Then save with a new name.
