It is supported – there’s a setting in the ‘App settings’ area but it should be turned on by default. Out of interest, do you know what language your phone is set to by default – e.g. ‘American English’ or ‘British English’ or something else?

I gave it another try today and heard a snippet of an announcement, but it seemed to clip off when I turned off my screen. Does the app need to be open and active to receive announcements?

Yes, it does. But you can go to ‘App settings’ and choose ‘Dim between turns’, and that’ll automatically turn the screen brightness off between announcements.
