Chepstow has one disadvantage.  It doesn't matter which way you go by road but it is going to be uphill on the way out.  The road out on NCR 42 is notable for its rather shocking little climb at the start conveniently ending just outside a hospital.  That'll pretty much be a signature of this little trip.... a hospital or graveyard seemed to accompany all the climbs one way or another.  The route to the town of Usk is reward enough to help us forget that this is an out and back route so the gift that keeps on giving in the shape of the road to Earlswood will be there to welcome us on the way back.... 

Great ride along the canal and out to Cwmdu for a well earned meal.  Marvelous!
