This is one of the most beautiful bicycle routes in Norway, but also very challenging. It includes all the elements that will satisfy even the most experienced cyclists who are looking for a challenge combined with memorable nature and cultural experiences. Along the way you will have some of the best experiences Valdres has to offer.

Difficulty: difficult−expert, not suitable for children

Distance: approx. 90 km + boat trip

Elevation gain: approx. 2030 meters

Season: From End of June to the beginning of September, as long as the season of the boat M/B Bitihorn

Tour description:

The tour leads from Beitostølen over the mountain pass Slettefjellet and continues along Vennisvegen along the northern shore of Lake Vangsmjøse to Øye. From here, follow Kongevegen up to Tyinkrysset. Further, follow road 33 to the southern end of Lake Tyin and turn right towards Eidsbugarden. From Eidsbugarden to Bygdin, you will have to take the historic MB Bitihorn across Lake Bygdin. Make sure you check the schedule beforehand and make reservations (for both you and your bike), since the boat only departs twice a day and there’s limited capacity. From Bygdin Høyfieldshotel, follow road 51 back to Beitostølen.

Tip:

We recommend you to use two days for this tour and stay overnight along the way. This will make the trip more accomplishable for less experienced cyclists and give you time for other experiences en route.

Experiences:

* Sputrefossen waterfall (Slettefjell road)

* The watermills Leinekvernene (along Lake Vangsmjøsa)

* Side trip to Øye Stave Church

* Hike to Horntind from Tyin or Utsikten/Skjenegge from Eidsbugarden or Tyinholmen

PS: If you are cycling this tour with an e-bike, you can charge the battery at the Filefjell Turist Office/Intersport at Tyinkrysset, either inside the store or outside on the wall next to the garbage containers. Also, there are chargers available for Shimano, Bosch og Yamaha.
