Nous comptions initialement traverser la frontière par un col Pyrénéen jusqu'à une station de train régional en Espagne. Nous avons été contraints de renoncer à cause de la météo, de fortes chutes de neige (50-80cm) sont prévues en altitude avec du vent. Tant pis, on reviendra 🙂 On décide de prendre un train jusqu'à Bayonne puis de rouler jusqu'à Irùn où nous prendrons un train jusqu'à Madrid (Media Distancia ~8h de train).

Un trajet de 55km pour 500m de dénivelé positif principalement sur l'Eurovelo 1. Beaucoup de circulation par rapport aux Cévennes mais le parcours Eurovelo offre de belles infrastructures cyclables !

Our initial plan was to cross the French-Spanish border by one of the cols in the Pyrenees. However this section will have to be postponed for the return leg. After a week of beautiful unseasonally warm, sunny weather, low pressure has been forecast for most of Europe. This meant our col is under 50-80cm of snow!! 

To avoid the wintery conditions, we took an Intercité train from Toulouse to Bayonne to explore the Basque coastline. After a day of travel and visiting Bayonne, our next plan was to cycle to Irùn/Hendaye following the Eurovelo 1 while taking some little detours. (54km 500m d+) It was an opportunity to briefly visit an area which could potentially become a future base. The coastline was attractive even under cloudy grey skies which threatened to rain!
