Won't route on cycle route

First of all, thanks so much for creating this wonderful site, it's a real treasure trove.

I was tinkering with the coast and castles route and found that it wouldn't route over a bit of the cycle route (ncn1, ev12). Must be something to do with how it's labelled in the data. The location is just east of Cheswick where it crosses the railway line. Neither the bridge nor the gravel track on either side will accept a route.

Daniel, I am far from an expert on Open Street Map but here are my thoughts based on the  route below, where, I think, viapoint 5 is where you have your issue?

First of all, that's pretty near the coast and I wonder if it's a seasonal thing (access is only seasonal) or a temporary thing (perhaps the bridge is gone/being repaired).

I also note that further north (east of viapoint 1) CT will not route along the official route. The two things may be related or they may not.

If you wish to plot a route through the "impossible" sections anyway, you can use the "direct to" feature, explained here: https://cycle.travel/post/3452

If you're not aware there is a Coast & Castles feature under Route Guides:  https://cycle.travel/route/coast_and_castles This features some ride reports.

I do have some experience of EV routes and CT regularly prefers alternatives to them, or sections of them. My experience is to trust the CT suggestion :-)

Unfortunately someone has decided to change the way that certain cycle routes in the UK (including NCN 1) are mapped in OSM, and cycle.travel needs a bit of updating to cope with that. It should be fixed in the next update – sorry for the hassle.

Thanks both for your responses. I'm sure it would be obvious on the ground, I was more a bit bemused when plotting. Glad to hear there's a fix and thanks for the pointer to the 'direct to' feature.

Thanks for bringing this to their attention. It's always good when issues like this can get resolved with the next update. In the meantime, those workarounds should do the trick. Glad you were able to figure it out - have a great ride!
