First impressions

Trying out CT on a longish day ride pleasantly surprised me. I use navigation and stay on low-traffic roads when I travel in Europe. I’ve tried lots of apps and appliances over the years.

At first I thought I would miss turn by turn navigation as for instance Komoot uses it; alongside a map. Knowing what to expect down the road and roughly when this will happen seemed necessary to me. I black out my screen a lot to save energy on longer routes, and knowing when I should start paying attention again helps with that.

But using the auto dim function, I don’t miss it at all. At first I needed to get used to just trusting CT and let go. But after a while I really enjoyed just riding and let CT do the work. I have much more time to look around and dont waste time checking the route. I didn’t miss a turn.

Also, the option to make a route using the “Routes” option and only use signposted routes is extremely helpful here in the Netherlands because it favors the rural back roads of the “knooppunten” and not the fast but very busy roads we call “N wegen” which have separate cycling paths and, therefore, other apps usually choose them.

So, thanks for this great app! I’m looking forward to using it on longer travels.

Contrast of map in app and battery usage

Hi!

First of all; thanks for a great app and site! I’ve used many nav apps and yours is really, really nice!

I tend to do long cycling days so battery usage is a thing. I’m very happy with the dimming between turns! But the map is bright and could save a lot of energy on oled screens if the background was darker. Also this would help with sunny days and visibility. Do you have plans to add a high contrast map or “dark mode”? Or is there a another solution?

Thanks in advance and greetings from the Netherlands, Joost
