How to update offline maps in android app?

I'm able to download offline maps in the android app okay, but how can I be sure that they are updated with something like the latest openstreetmap data? I don't see anyway to force that to happen.

Related question: how to I remove maps I don't need anymore? (obviously this would be a way to force a map update, by removing maps and then re-installing them).

I did search the app help, the FAQ and the forum but did not find an answer to these questions :~)
