This route is downhill all the way, past Iffley Church (Norman period) and part of Iffley Village, across the lock and up the riverside path. Once you're on the towpath, travel up-river towards the city centre and further; or south along the much improved National Cycle Network route 5, towards Kennington and Abingdon.
The path is gradually being improved for cycling by the County Council's "Riverside Route" scheme www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/residents/roads-and-transport/roadworks/major-current-roadworks/riverside-route-cycle-project
Use Park and Pedal to reach Rose Hill Community Centre.
Here's a Quiet Route between Oxford's main railway station and the Community Centre at Rose Hill. It follows the scenic River Thames riverside path, using the old Gasworks Bridge to cross to the West bank, then Iffley Lock to cross back. About half an hour, with only one very short hostile section along Oxpens Road.
It's been devised to help train travellers attending the national conference and workshops on 10th November 2017 organised by Cyclox: "Shifting Gear: a radical Change for Cycling". Get your ticket now!
Hire bikes are plentiful at the Rail Station. You can rent from Oxonbike (dock-based: e-assist, if you like); Donkey Republic (dockless, with gears and rear rack; mobile app based); Brompton (famous folding bike, from their BromptonDock pod); Ofo and Pony (dockless bike-share via mobile app (Ofo; Pony); single-trip, no gears); Cycle.Land (peer-to-peer bike share: AirBnB for bikes).
