Suffolk road closures - Sizewell C

Hi Richard, all,

Just a quick heads up for anyone cycling around Suffolk at the moment. Willow Marsh Lane near Darsham is currently completely closed as it’s being turned into a park & ride for the new Sizewell C development. According to the signage, it’s closed until June 2026. Despite there being no noticeable work taking place, the contractors refused to let me through, and the whole area around this road is fenced off. 

This might seem like an insignificant closure, but for cyclists it’s a real pain. This road provides the best access to NCN1 from Darsham railway station. Unfortunately, the only options for cyclists hoping to go west from Darsham is to go along the exceptionally busy A12 to either the A114 to the north or the A1120 to the south. I did the latter today, and it wasn’t an enjoyable experience. 

If anyone is planning a cycle tour in this part of Suffolk, I’d avoid Darsham station until next year, and begin your journey in Halesworth. I thought I’d mention this here, as neither Google Maps nor Cycle.Travel brought this up in my route planning, so I assume it’s not been recorded on any route planning data. Not a criticism of this wonderful site at all, btw!
