The Consortium Camino del Cid has an excellent website at caminodelcid.org with more details about the route.

Clicking on this: caminodelcid.org I was warned off proceeding (I use Firefox) so maybe worth amending this link on the route guide details?

Not always the best routes

Just for fun, I asked for a route between two points I ride frequently close to where I live in Texas to see what would come up, but disappointingly, the route offered was along the busiest most horrible route for cycling rather than the quiet back roads we all love. The suggested route would be great for a motorist being the most direct, fastest, but it is clear work needs to be done to correct this anomaly.

Any ideas how I might go about helping to revise this for future cyclists?

turn-by-turn app

I just saw this on another forum (posted last year) so I was wondering if this app is out. Apologies if I am way behind on this.

"The main point to the app is that you can just put your phone on your handlebars, fire up the app and go. It'll give you a map to follow and turn-by-turn directions along the way."

I have been trying to get RWGPS to do something like this because I just cannot read the turn by turn instructions on my tiny Wahoo screen, so if this site has this app, then I'm sorted.

Hairy verses safer?

Just a comment comparing different routes from different folks:

I have a route I am planning to ride next May going from Street in Somerset to Bewdley near Bridgenorth;

This route is provided by my good friends at Peak Tours (I'm not riding with them - this time) of 111 miles. It is extremely hairy in places particularly going over the west side of Bristol up to the Severn Bridge. Checking a route with Cycle.Travel for the same beginning and end points yields 139 miles.

One choice maybe much safer, but comes at the expense of an additional 1-1/2 hours riding - for me - on an already long day's cycling. The other choice is shorter but some of the route is downright scary and I'd be well advised to have local taxi numbers available to hop over some of these death traps.

Just a for instance comment. :-)

Editing?

I want to ask the group if it would be useful to add some editing to the Openstreetmaps. Such as when I design - or ask for - a route, some of the cues state turns like: "Turn into minor road". If I go to Google maps, I can then see the actual name of that 'minor road. I could then - if I signed up to Openstreetmaps - add the name of that street/road to the Open maps. Would that be a useful worthwhile endevour or not, since anyone could compare Google with Open to obtain the same information?
