Hi folks,

When I turn on the app (Android - Sony Xperia 10 iii) I get the message:
‘cycle.travel wants to turn on bluetooth’ – Deny Allow.
I just click ‘Deny’ and it goes away.
I never use Bluetooth so I’m wondering why I get this message. I can’t find anything in Settings to stop it.
No biggie, but I’m just wondering if anyone else has encountered this.

Still loving the app Richard!

The app uses Bluetooth for two things. One is (this is only on iOS for now) to let you send routes to friends wirelessly – so if you’re going out for a group ride you can all have the same ride without having to re-save journeys. The other is that, every now and then, the app will do a quick count of how many nearby Bluetooth devices it can ‘hear’. This is basically a way of estimating car traffic levels on rural roads – if there are more Bluetooth devices, that suggests more cars passing, which is information cycle.travel can use to find quieter roads.

In theory it should stop asking if you’ve already said ‘Deny’ but evidently not! If you want to shut it up you could tap ‘Allow’, but then turn off ‘Route feedback’ in the app settings, which will stop it doing the occasional Bluetooth count.
