strange routing behavior in the presence of "dead end" via points

Changes to a route that contains via points that are entered and left the same way (e.g. exits to a poi aside of the route) might result in unexpected behavior removing these "dead ends" and in some cases changing the route fundamentally.

See e.g. cycle.travel/map/journey/326706

Load and rightclick-add via point between points 2 and 3 .. the "dead end" via point 4 is being "optimized away"

(interestingly the resulting route seems to be different if I open the stored route from the link under "your saved routes" or directly from the URL .. via 4 is lost in both cases however.

Effect seems to happen in "paved" mode only ..

Switching from paved to unpaved is adding a "loop" to the via

so internally the system might consider the via point to be unpaved and optimize it away in paved mode (although it is on a paved segment and can be re-introduced in paved mode)

It’s a complex one and there’s (I think) two separate issues here. I have a fix in the works for both of them: whether or not this gets the overall issue resolved I’m not sure but we shall see!
