With a week off work and no other plans, it seemed like a good idea to replicate Arlo's Hull-Wales journey but taking a more northerly route. Whilst the Transpennine Trail is kinda nice, it's not the most sensible route.

A couple of things came up during the week, so I ended up skipping the two central hilly days. But I rode one of them earlier in the month anyway, and the other earlier in the year.

It was quite eye-opening how badly maintained some of the canal towpaths are outside of Yorkshire, and I would definitely tweak routes to avoid canals where possible in the future. I did end up diverting away from some canal sections during the week, and I've updated the map accordingly.

This route follows basically two train routes (Hull-Leeds-Halifax and Leeds-Halifax-Chester) so it's really easy to travel between the "overnight" stops. But do look into split ticketing if you do this, especially on the longer train journeys
