It would be hard to think of a more quintessential route through rural England than this. A north-south route across East Anglia from Fakenham to Colchester (each a short way from the coast), it passes through a seemingly endless stream of neat villages: you can almost tick off the village green, shop, church and pub in each one. They're connected by single-track tarmac lanes, with few hills of any consequence. It all makes for a relaxing week's break or a long weekend, though bear in mind you'll have to press on to Sheringham or King's Lynn if you want to take the train home from the northern end. (There are also intermittent stretches of NCN 13 between Colchester and London, but they don't all join up yet so we've not included them in the plotted route.)
