The Nickey Line railway path is a much-prized traffic-free route along the old branch railway from Hemel Hempstead to Harpenden, unpaved but in good condition.
The Ayot Greenway continues it to Welwyn Garden City, though there's a brief interlude in the route around Wheathampstead. The 16-mile route is mostly traffic-free and level.
