The south of Anglesey is rich in birdlife and a famous spot for red squirrels. The traffic-free Malltraeth Cob, followed by the gravelly Lon Las Cefni, are fine ways to appreciate the solitude of this unique area. North of the county town of Llangefni, NCN 566 takes off on narrow lanes for a protracted exploration of this sometimes hilly island. There are good views over the Irish Sea as you pass Amlwch. In the future, it's possible that the rusted tracks of the old branch line to Amlwch could be taken up and a traffic-free cycleway installed in their place.
