NCN 224 – Meon Valley Trail
Overview
Plan a trip

The Meon Valley Trail is an unpaved rail trail, tree-lined and always attractive though sometimes muddy.

NCN 224 bookends it with country lane sections to form a rural route from Alton to the coast at Gosport. The route currently isn’t signed between Medstead and the start of the Meon Valley Trail at West Meon; you can piece together an on-road route easily but watch for the crossings of the busy A272 and A31.

Particularly unusual is Henry Cort Way from Fareham to Gosport, an old railway which has been tarmaced as a busway - so you'll be sharing the space with buses, but no cars.

Just 38 miles long, NCN 224 is an easy Saturday ride to the coast, with a useful railway station at the Alton start point.
