EuroVelo 1 (Ireland) - Wild Atlantic Way
Overview
Plan a trip

The stunning Wild Atlantic Way is rapidly becoming the must-do Irish tourist experience, attracting thousands of caravanners, motorbikers and other motorised holidaymakers every year.

You can cycle the motorists’ Wild Atlantic Way route, and many people do. But you’ll have a much more enjoyable time on this, the cycling version. Part of the Eurovelo route network, it chooses the quietest routes along Ireland’s Atlantic coast, while still visiting the coastal towns and villages that give the Wild Atlantic Way so much of its charm.

Better still, Eurovelo 1 continues along Ireland’s southern coast to Cork, Waterford and Rosslare, taking in new cycleways such as the Waterford Greenway. Ireland is investing heavily in its recreational cycle routes and this has some of the best of them.

At almost 1500 miles, this is a month’s cycling holiday in itself. But you can extend it still further by meandering along some of the peninsulas and promontories that decorate Ireland’s west coast.

The route is now fully signposted in the north-west, from Derry to Westport. Much of the southern section is signposted as Eurovelo 1, too. Between those two points there are few signposts as yet, but we’ve plotted the projected course to make up this route.
