V61
Overview
Plan a trip

One of three Alpine véloroutes, V61 is a long descent from the slopes of Mont Blanc at Chamonix to the shores of Lake Geneva.

There’s a rail service throughout the valley, so you can get the train up and then ride back down. Indeed, large parts of the route are on a track by the railway line, while others follow the banks of the Arve river.

Don’t expect an easy ride all the way, though. The main road hogs the Arve valley in its higher reaches, forcing the cycle route onto steep hairpin bends higher up the slopes. The magnificent views are worth it, but if you’re after an easy ride, we’d suggest you start at Saint-Gervais-les-Bains station.
