Starting in the middle of the ride

If I start in the middle of an existing ride will it pick up where I left off?

I'm new....put a ride on the laptop and opened it on my phone.  It is a test to see how it works, basically around the circle (block).  It shows a blue highlight on the path I need to go on and turns properly to get me back home.  All good so far.  I can't get the audio to play for the turns. I did turn on  Settings > app settings>Map Language English>  Announcements > Spoken   sound effects >on

What am I missing?  I really need turn-by-turn audio. 

Place search is OpenStreetMap, if that makes a difference.   I did try announcements on screen, and that worked. I switch back to spoken.  

Hopefully, it's something simple I missed in the setup.  Help is appreciated.  Thanks Scott
