Started the ride in Donauschingen at the source of the Donau and followed the river to Vienna stopping in Sigmaringen,Ehingen,Lauingen,Ingolstadt,Regensburg,Deggendorf,Passau,Linz,Ybbs an der Donau,Krems and Vienna before getting the train back to Luxembourg via an overnight in Munich. The highlights of the trip were cycling through the Wachau region between Ybbs and Krems , the Melk Abbyand of course beautiful Vienna. Surpises were Regensburg and Linz, disappointments were Passau, I was expecting something more beautiful, this is where the Inn and Donau rivers meet.
Having already cycled from Dijon to Lyon,Annecy,Grenoble and down to Cartagena my missing link is to Dijon, anyhow didn't quite get to Dijon for a few reasons but made it to Port sur Soane.......it took me 4 days and 340km along La Voie Blue following the Mosel and Canal de Vosges , the latter the highlight of the trip. From Nancy South its quite remote, but peaceful and full of gorgeous nature.
Day one 75km from Mensdorf across the south of Luxembourg to Dudelange. I take predominantly cycle paths, farm roads or very quiet minor roads on my trips. Luxembourg is a beautiful country to cycle particularly during the summer season, with warm partly cloudy conditions and abundant nature. Signage and conditions of paths and roads is probably best in Europe.Public Transport is free here so make the most of it!
Day two 61km from Dudelange up to Lutzlhausen on lake Esch Sure....beautiful rideNorth following the various bike routes, a few climbs an old rail line and tunnel, across spectacular country. The evening I had a private room with en suite at the Youth Hostel on the lake
Day three 75km from the lake across country to pickup the bike path to Bastogne and on to Gouvy before heading south to Fischbach in the North of luxembourg......love the Ardennes region and some unspoilt villages along the way.
Day 4 76km back to Wasserbillig the lowest point in Luxembourg at 140m above sea level.......travelling to Vianden, Echternach and along the Saur river to Wasserbillig
