8 days until I head north...

I am all ready to go.  There is only so much packing, unpacking, weighing and trying to lose a few kilos of unnecessary gear one can do.  Everything I am bringing with me is essential, and minimal.  My 4 panniers and the tent bag on the back weigh a total of 25.4 kilos.  Add another 5 kilos of water and three gas canisters (I'll buy those in Honningsvag) and I am just around 32 kilos.  That's as light as I can make it.  I think, maybe, as I go south and it gets warmer I might box up some heavier clothes and mail them back to me.   I have checked and re-checked the airlines to make sure that the tickets are all in order.  I have downloaded all the apps I might need onto my phone.  So now I wait another week.  I'm excited about this.  A little nervous.  I have a feeling somewhere in the middle I will have been stripped of all preconceived notions of self, all my arrogance, my ego...I will be left with the core of my being and this will guide me.  Certainly it will not be some La-Di-Da jaunt.  Life awaits on the table in front of us.  Take big bites.

27 days until Nordkap, Norway to Paros, Greece...

I'll be packing up my gear and heading  to the very top of Norway in a few weeks...June 10th to be exact.  I haven't ridden a Long Ride since the summer of '19 when I did the Wild Atlantic Way, and a little beyond.  Covid, lockdown, family stuff, etc...kept me from the Long Ride so now I am back.  Of course I rode a lot every day anyway and have done some short excursions gin Greece.  I expect every kind of weather and terrainThis will be a big one and will take me away from my home here in Greece for over 4 months.  Nordkap back the to the island of Paros, where I live.  How many kilometers?  I'll tell you when I'm done.  Exactly how long will it take?  Ditto.  Almost every kind of weather and terrain...I am sure there will be times when I want to pack it in and fly home.  Just gotta push through that veil.  I learned that in Ireland.  So now I am downloading some gpx maps for Italy.  This is a great site.  Many thanks.  More to come.  JM
